Recipe by: Jennifer Coatanroch, La Vie Plenty

This might be my new go-to dessert for ALL events! They are so pretty, so easy, and...shhh, don't tell anyone, but they're also healthy!

They're also a great hands-on treat to make with your kids. My son and I had a lot of fun experimenting with this recipe! And there are so many variations, you can absolutely tailor this to the tastes of your home.

If you're dairy or soy free, make sure to buy chocolate without dairy or soy. Use any kind of fruit, any kind of nut, and any shaped pretzel! This would even be super easy to make for one person, just heat up less chocolate, and drizzle over your desired fruit. A great way to have dessert without the guilt. ;-)

Have fun experimenting, and please share in the comments what your favorite combinations are!

Bon Appétit, and Happy Cooking!

Time: 20 minutes

Yield: 6-8 servings _________________________________________

Ingredients:

  • Fruit of choice, totaling about 2 cups: Strawberries, bananas (whole or cut), orange slices, cherries, pineapple slices, cantaloupe, etc.

  • 6 pretzel rods

  • 6 oz. chocolate (2 bars), or 1 cup chocolate chips

Optional:

  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (or one 3 oz. bar) for decorating

  • 1/4 cup walnuts, chopped or crushed

  • sprinkles

  • crushed candy canes

  • any other desired decorations!

Will need:

  • Toothpicks for fruit

  • Parchment paper or nonstick baking mat

  • Baking sheet or a flat tray/plate that will fit in the fridge

  • Spoon for stirring chocolate

  • Small microwave safe bowl

Directions:

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Microwave chocolate in a microwave safe bowl, stirring about every 30 seconds, until melted and smooth, for 2 minutes on 50% power.

  2. While the chocolate is melting, place walnuts in a bowl and crush with a muddler, or the end of a wooden spoon.

  3. Once chocolate is melted, either use a toothpick, or carefully hold the fruit, and dip each piece into the chocolate, placing each piece on your parchment lined baking sheet as you go.

  4. Dip the pretzels half way into the chocolate, and place onto the parchment lined baking sheet.

  5. Dip any desired fruit or pretzels into the crushed walnuts and/or sprinkles. You may do all or some of them.

  6. Transfer the baking sheet to the refrigerator until the chocolate has hardened completely (about 15-20 minutes).

  7. While the chocolate is hardening, place the white chocolate in a microwave safe bowl, and microwave for 2 minutes at 50% power, stirring every 30 seconds, until melted and smooth.

  8. Remove the chocolates from the refrigerator once they are hardened. Using a spoon, drizzle the melted white chocolate over the desired pieces. Chill until hardened.

  9. Eat and enjoy!
